Councillor: Mad little men out to get me
DAP's Kajang councillor Lee Kee Hiong lashes out at her anonymous critics and challenges the 'cowards' to take her on in the open.
PETALING JAYA: DAP’s Kajang (MPKj) municipal councillor Lee Kee Hiong has dismissed the allegations against her, claiming that “mad little men” are plotting her downfall.
Over the past few weeks, Lee has been put under the spotlight after FMT reported allegations of abuse of power and corruption against her.
Yesterday, the councillor visited the FMT office here, seeking to put an end to what she described as “inaccurate and misleading” reports about her.
According to Lee, there is a small group out to get her for various reasons.
The councillor said she is aware of the actions of her detractors, which included two sacked DAP members.
“The Kajang councillors’ terms will end in February, and the menteri besar will soon announce the names of those who have been appointed. There are people trying very hard to get me out so that I won’t be reappointed,” said Lee, who is also DAP’s Hulu Langat parliamentary liaison committee chairperson.
“Why? You know that a lot of people make use of councillors to get things in their interest. I am against that. I don’t tolerate corruption at all,” she added.
Lee described these individuals as “narcissistic” because they think they are right all the time.
She also challenged the “cowardly characters” to show their faces and confront her openly, rather than doing so through the media as anonymous sources.
“I am very straightforward, I don’t give people false hopes. And maybe that’s why some people who feel that they can’t hope for certain things are unhappy with me.
“I don’t have the MCA mindset of anything goes. I must follow right procedures and if your proposals to the council do not seem right, we won’t allow it,” she said.
“Please think, If I was really corrupt, when MACC investigated me they would have charged me. If my party found out, I would have been booted out long before,” she added.
‘I am a socialist’
Lee noted that many of the allegations raised against her are old issues, which she has explained numerous times.
“The whole story doesn’t tally. If I am so powerful, why do I need all all these small projects? I am not involved in any projects,” she stressed.
Lee said her position does not hold much power but she may appear prominent as she often helped organised DAP events behind the scenes.
Recently, Lee was the one who spurred her Pakatan Rakyat councillors to wear the Bersih 2.0′s yellow t-shirt during a council meeting, and she is now organising an anti-Lynas campaign.
“These are the things I do for my party, I’m here for the better Malaysia. I’m not here for power or money. (Petaling Jaya MP and DAP leader) Tony Pua also said I am the most hardworking state committee member,” she added.
Lee also said that from her time spent overseas, she and her husband have enough money to semi-retire and do not need to “steal” from the people.
“If you find any property in Malaysia belonging to me, then by all means, take it. I will give it to you. Because I’m a socialist, I believe that we cannot buy houses and rent it out to people,” she added.
